West hit back to thwart Shildon

West Auckland hit back to share the spoils with Shildon on Boxing Day.

A largely forgettable first half saw Shildon lead at the break with a goal in stoppage time when Adam Gell’s looping cross was headed in by Billy Greulich-Smith from close range.

The game improved in the second half and West levelled when Aaran Wearmouth did well on the right, Amar Purewal pulled the ball back and Anthony Bell drilled low and hard past two defenders and the keeper.

Both sides had chances to win it with Adam McHugh making three excellent saves to help West move onto 40 points for the season.
