West stunned by Team Northumbria

Team Northumbria 5-0 West Auckland

West were taught a lesson in clinical finishing by Team Northumbria at their Coach Lane Campus.

A Robert Spence goal and a brace apiece for Andrei Ardelan and Ben Dibb-Fuller gives TN a impressive win.

Things could have been all different if Nathan Fisher had scored within two minutes. He races behind the defence, gets his shot away but Ross McKeown bravely blocks his early shot.

The first chance for TN falls on twelve minutes as Robert Spence dinks a delightful ball to the far post. It finds Kevin Carr and he takes a touch before forcing West’s debutant keeper Shane Bland into a smart save at his near post.

A minute later the league’s leading goal scorer Nathan Fisher went close again, finding himself on the edge of the area hit a low shot but went the wrong side of the post.

Team North take the lead on sixteen minutes as a Joshua Bynoe’s free kick finds Spence who loops a header back over West’s keeper Shane Bland.

Halfway through the first half Adam Mitchell flashes a shot over the Team North crossbar from twenty yards out. Takes a blatant touch of a Team North defender but a goal kick is given.

The hosts double the lead just before the half hour as Bynoe robs Auckland defender Jamie Cobain and rolls the ball across the box to leave Andrei Ardelean with a simple tap-in.

Five minutes later it’s 3-0 when Ardelean is left on his own on the left and is given time to take a touch and roll the ball past Bland for his second of the game and give Team North a comfortable half time lead.

West made two substitutes for the start of the second half and had the majority of the possession but lacked the ability to create a meaningful chance.

On the hour and against the run of play Team North got their fourth. Another incisive break from Team North, Ardelean finds Ben Dibb-Fuller and he moves in from the right before firing past Bland from 20 yards into the bottom corner.

Another clinical finish brought up Team North’s fifth goal, Bynoe finds Dibb-Fuller and he smashes a low drive across Bland and just inside the far-post.

Going into the last minute Team North’s keeper Greg Purvis makes his first save of the second half when Mitchell’s cross finds Purewal but the West striker’s header is comfortably saved.
