Crook Town 0-1 West Auckland Town
West Auckland Town made it four consecutive victories after a 1-0 win over Crook Town at the Sir Tom Cowie Millfield ground.
Amar Purewal’s curling effort saw Gary Forrest’s side clinch victory and secure a fourth clean sheet in a row.
In the opening stages, West controlled the early possession and frustrated the hosts from carving out any early opportunities.
Inside the 24th minute, Arran Wearmouth delivered a great pass into Denver Morris, who saw his shot cleared off the line by the onrushing Crook defender.
Seven minutes later, Anthony Bell cut inside and hit a left-footed strike narrowly wide.
Moments before the interval, Crook had a rare sight at goal and curled just wide of Shane Bland’s right-hand post.
After the restart, it was Crook who started stronger and forced a good save from Bland who was alert to the danger.
A few minutes later the West manager Gary Forrest make a couple of changes, with Purewal and Doninger replacing Morris and Wearmouth to try and inject a new burst of energy into his side.
As the tempo from both sides increased, it was only a matter of time before the deadlock was broken.
And it was West who found that extra bit of quality in the 66th minute, when Purewal from 20 yards out curled a crisp strike over the Crook goalkeeper to score his third goal in pre-season.
After giving his side the lead, Purewal almost got himself an assist just four minutes later though Doninger couldn’t control his header and placed it wide.
Before the full-time whistle, Nathan Fisher who was the top goal scorer in the Northern League last season, had a great chance to make it 2-0 but shot just wide of the left-hand post.
As the referee brought the game to a close, it was another convincing display by Forrest’s side, taken nothing away from Crook, they battled till the end
