Penrith 2-3 West Auckland
West regain a top 5 position after a narrow 3-2 away win at bottom club Penrith.
A Purewal brace followed by a debut goal from on-loan defender Chris Hunter gave West all the points.
A two minutes silence superbly observed by all in Frenchfield Park to celebrate 100 years since the end of WW1.
West made 3 changes from last weeks FA Vase win at Thackley bringing in Chris Hunter, Alex Francis and Adam Burnicle for Denver Morris, Jamie Cobain and the injured Nathan Fisher.
West started the better side and on 5 minutes had a good shout for a penalty when Burnicle played Purewal through and looked to be brought down, the referee was having nothing to do with it.
First chance for the home side came on 20 minutes when Main shoots across goal and Moynan was inches away from getting his toe on the end of it.
Shortly after Penrith were awarded a free kick central to the goal. Shaun Gardner lined the 30yd free kick up but it was saved by Shane Bland in the Auckland goal.
The breakthrough came on 29’ when Alex Francis played a weighted pass to Amar Purewal who beats the offside trap and drills his shot into the far corner. 0-1
Penrith got another free kick fired in by Coleman and it bounces just before the keeper, rebounds back off him but Grant Davidson can’t quite poke it home as Bland gathers.
Just before the half time whistle Adam Burnicle could have doubled the lead but his effort was straight at the keeper from inside the box.
The hosts got themselves back into the game within two minutes of the second half, Coleman’s shot was finger saved for a corner, the resulting corner was headed goal bound before Connor Shields flicks it past Bland to equalise. 1-1
On the hour mark Shaun Gardner put Penrith ahead with a wonder-goal. The corner comes in and Gardner volleys it into the roof of the net giving the keeper no chance. 2-1
Three minutes later the scores were back level when Portas was brought down in the box, up steps Purewal to fire home his second of the game. 2-2
West regained the lead five minutes later when a Adam Mitchell corner was headed powerfully home by Chris Hunter. 2-3
The referee was in the thick of it again when a ball up to Coleman in the box, looks as if he is man handled to the ground in the box. Nothing given and West hold on to make it 5 wins in 5 in all competitions.
