West Auckland 1-0 Marske United
Amar Purewal’s second-half strike saw West Auckland claim a narrow 1-0 win against Marske United at the Wanted Stadium.
Last season’s Division One Champions struggled to pose any real threat as Gary Forrest’s side put in a solid performance.
Inside the opening eight minutes, Anthony Bell found some space and hit a left-footed shot over the bar.
West continued to put Marske under pressure as Nathan Fisher played a great ball to Denver Morris who dragged his effort wide of the post.
The visitors responded on the 35th minute with a curling shot over the bar as they slowly started to control the possession.
And just six minutes later, Shane Bland was called into action and made a good save to keep the scores level going into half-time.
When the second-half got back underway, Forrest made numerous changes to try and find a winner.
Left-back Thomas Price had a great chance to score when his audacious right-footed cross hit the crossbar.
Substitute Arran Wearmouth also went close on the 63rdminute, after forcing a decent save from the Marske keeper.
With 20 minutes to go, West eventually got the breakthrough they were looking for as Morris win the ball in his own half, with a quick one two, he raced to the goal line and crossed a diagonal ball into the path of Purewal who side footed home to claim a well deserved victory.
After two consecutive victories in pre-season, West will look to carry on their winning momentum when they take on Scottish side Tranent Juniors in another home encounter on Saturday 14thJuly (15:00pm).
