West Auckland 2-0 Tranent Juniors

Two second half goals gave West three wins out of three in the pre-season campaign.

It was a case of De-ja-vu as the first half ended goalless, a sub came on and scored and the West keeper Shane Bland, kept his third clean sheet.

As the teams lined up for kick off, any ground hopper wouldn’t know which team was who as Auckland wore there home yellow strip and the Scottish outfit wore West’s away white strip. “Must remember to pack the strip next time” recalls a Tranent committee member.

It was the visitors who nearly opened the scoring when after just 8 minutes a cheeky chip that went over the West keeper’s outstretched hands, only for Denver Morris to clear a certain goal.

Midway through the first half and the temperature reaching 26’ the referee stopped play for a drinks break, a welcome stoppage to get fluids on board.

With the game becoming a midfield battle, chances were far and few between until a couple of minutes before the break, Tom Price made a run from the halfway and found Anthony Bell on the 18yard line, his speculative shot was a shade to high.

Just before the hour mark Forrest introduces two subs. Adam Mitchell and a Trialist come on for Francis and Bell.

It wasn’t long before they made a impact, a fine dribble from the trailist who then finds Mitchell and threads the ball to Fisher, shoots low but the Tranent keeper pulls off a great block.

The breakthrough came on 76 minutes when Fisher fires one in from the edge, the keeper pushes the ball away only for the trialist to run on to and tap in.

Ten minutes later the win was wrapped up when Denver Morris received the ball from Mitchell and after a dashing run into the box, he pulls it back for Amar Purewal to hammer in.
