A second pre-season win was secured thanks to a dominant first half - although a relaxed second half saw Guisborough close up the score line.
The first real chance fell to Guisborough defender Stuart Jackson who volleyed wide from 10 yards following a half cleared corner. West hit back with Jamie Middleton heading just wide a minute later before Middleton again headed just over following good work on the wing by Garry Barnes. The breakthrough was made in the 19th minute with Dale Jardine's perfect corner being headed in from close range by Michael Heckley.
Guisborough should have leveled in the 29th minute when a quick free kick saw Craig Skelton find Jackson in acres of room but his shot clipped the top of the bar. Skelton then had a goal ruled out for offside in the 33rd minute before West went up the other end of the field and Garry Barnes guided the ball into the net for the second.
Dale Jardine forced a good block after twisting and turning 2 defenders however it was his strike partner Barnes who capitalised on a goal keeping error to quickly react and stab home the third. Kyle Etherington also did well to quickly react and grab a loose ball after Ian Maddison had inadvertently sliced the ball towards his own goal.
In the second half West failed to get out of first gear and in the 54th minute Guisborough got in behind the defence to pull a goal back. After Lee Ellison had narrowly volleyed just over the bar following good work by Stuart Owen, West had little other opportunities. However Guisborough posed little threat although when their forward charged down goalkeeper Kyle Etherington's clearance, the ball looped into the net to give a tighter score line than some could have predicted at half time.
